My Prayers for my Daughter

  • Save

My sweet daughter, Bethany is a precious gift from God. I believe that praying is one of the most powerful things you can do for your child. I wanted to share some of the things I pray for and hope this encourages you, as well as my prayers as a mom.

  • Salvation

My biggest prayer for Bethany is that she will choose to know God personally. Unfortunately, I cannot save her, but God can! It’s not only my desire for her to be saved, but God’s. 1 Timothy 2:4 says, “God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth.”

“Lord, I thank You for Bethany. She is such a gift to me. I ask that she will desire You and seek You in everything she does. Give her a love for Your Word so she isn’t confused by what the world says about You. Don’t allow her failures in life to discourage her, but rather encourage her to be more dependent on Your grace everyday.”

  • Character

I pray that Bethany will become more like Jesus as she draws closer to Him. “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another,” Colossians 3:12-13a.

“Lord, I trust that as Bethany draws closer to You that she will become more like You. Give her a heart like Yours that is compassionate, kind, forgiving, loving, gentle, patient, and full of grace.”

  • Wisdom

God’s Word is full of wisdom and guidance. I often ask that Bethany would have a love for the Bible and that she will trust in the Lord instead of being wise in her own eyes (Proverbs 3:7).

“Lord, I often think of Proverbs 1:7 ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.’ I ask that Bethany will fear You and obey You. Don’t let her be a fool, but wise and love Your commands for us.”

  • Joy

Of course, Bethany is a true joy to be around. However, I want her to find joy in Jesus! Right now, her biggest worry is losing her stuffed Elmo that she loves. The reality is, as she gets older, she will find that life is hard. But she can rejoice in the Lord!

“God, life isn’t easy. Thank You that Bethany doesn’t understand much hardship as a 1 year old. But as she grows up to be an amazing godly woman someday, I ask that she finds her joy in You!”

  • Self-Esteem

Wow, I really struggled with my self esteem growing up. I never really thought highly of myself, but sought out other’s approval or did what they thought was beautiful. It wasn’t until I found my worth in Jesus that I finally felt confident in the body and mind that God gave me.

“Lord, thank you that we are made alive in You! I ask that Bethany will know that she is ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ (Psalm 139:14) by You. That she is Your ‘Workmanship created in [You] for good works,’ (Ephesians 2:10).”
