My Prayers for My Husband
I have prayed for my husband before I ever met him. In fact, when I was 15 years old, I wrote down a list, as I prayed to God, what I desired in a husband. Please know that there is no perfect man (or woman) out there! Ultimately, I desired a man that feared God. As I wrote many characteristics down, I prayed over each and every one of them. Then I put the list away until I met him. When I met my husband, Brandon, and we started dating, I prayed for him. When we got married, I continued to pray for him. I encourage you if you’re married, dating, or single, to pray for your husband! It’s truly the best thing you can do for him. I wanted to share 5 things I constantly pray for.
- His Love for God
Of course, I know that Brandon loves God, but I pray that his love for God grows stronger everyday and that he will put Him first before anything else in his life.
“Lord, I thank You so much for Brandon and his love for You. I ask that he will obey Your Word and ‘love [You] with all [his] heart, with all [his] soul, and with all [his] strength,’ (Deuteronomy 6:4).”
- Practicing Believer
It’s easy to say that you love God, but I pray that Brandon will constantly be drawing closer to God. That he has the desire to read the Bible and live the way God wants him to everyday!
“Lord, give Brandon the desire to read Your Word and live it out! I know I’ve struggled with ‘going through the motions’ before. Don’t let Brandon get caught up in life and distracted by things other than You,”
- Temptation
As humans, we are sinners that are constantly battling temptation. My prayer for Brandon is that he will be careful with tempting situations and cling to God in those times. Jesus says in Matthew 26:41, “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
“Jesus, thank You that we can lean on You when we are tempted. I ask that You will deliver Brandon from temptation. Protect him from any tempting situations that come his way. Make him more and more like You as he draws closer to You.”
- Guidance and Wisdom
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Brandon often has a lot of decisions to make. I pray that he will trust God for guidance and wisdom before anything else!
“God, guide Brandon in everything he does. I know he is faced with many decisions, big and small everyday. Give him confidence to seek You in everything.”
- Fatherhood
Brandon is a great dad to our sweet daughter, Bethany! I think it’s important to pray that he continues to seek God as he grows as a dad.
“Lord, thank you that Brandon has the example of his dad, but also the fatherly love that You give us. I trust that as he seeks You, he will become even more loving, patient, kind, and encouraging as a father to Bethany.”
I couldn’t be more thankful for Brandon and all he does for Bethany and I! I was encouraged by the book, The Power of a Praying Wife, by Stormie Omartian when Brandon and I were newly married. Always remember to talk with your spouse about what they could use prayer for. I hope this encourages you, as well as my prayers for my daughter and my prayers as a mom.
